Cleveland Browns Deshaun Watson News

Deshaun Watson Suspended 11 Games

Browns Quarterback's Suspension Ends Training Camp Participation

Watson Reaches Training Camp Goal Despite Injury

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has received an 11-game suspension from the NFL, officials announced Thursday. The suspension stems from allegations of sexual misconduct against Watson during his time with the Houston Texans.

Watson had been facing a potential suspension of up to a year, but the NFL ultimately decided on the shorter 11-game ban. The suspension will begin with the Browns' season opener against the Carolina Panthers on September 11th.

The Browns had been hoping that Watson would be available to play in all or most of the 2022 season. However, the suspension will now force the team to start backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett for the first 11 games of the year.

Watson had been participating in training camp with the Browns and had even started in the team's preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, he suffered a displaced fracture to his right shoulder during the game and is expected to miss the rest of the preseason.

Despite the injury, Watson was able to reach his goal of participating in training camp and staying on track for the regular season. He had previously said that he wanted to be ready to play in Week 1, but the suspension will now prevent that from happening.

The NFL's suspension of Watson is a significant development in the ongoing legal and public relations saga surrounding the quarterback. It remains to be seen how the suspension will impact Watson's career and the Browns' chances of success in 2022.
