US 97 Blewett Pass in Washington is closed in both directions due to a wildfire burning near the highway, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced on Sunday, August 14, 2023.

The fire, which started on Saturday afternoon, has burned approximately 1,000 acres and is threatening structures in the area.

The closure is in effect from milepost 151 near Cle Elum to milepost 175 near Cashmere.

WSDOT says there is no estimated time for reopening the highway.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
